SEIBA JAZZFEST 2019, Claire W. Outstanding soloist PDF Print E-mail

The Washington Middle School Jazz Band performed at the SEIBA Jazzfest at West High School in Iowa City on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 in the Small Class Jr. High (class 1A-3A middle schools). Three judges scored the bands and gave out solo awards. The WMS band scored 65,65 and 49.

 

Claire W., received the Overall Outstanding Soloist award for all Class 1A-3A MS/JH Jazz Bands for her solo and section work on trombone.

 

 

The Jazz band also had 5 students who received solo awards on Saturday: Claire W, trombone; Kevin F, tuba; Julianna W., clarinet ; Trenton H., Alto Sax; and Mikaila M, piano (daughter of Barb Matheson)

After the band's performance, they spent about a half hour with clinician, Jerry Zinn, who watched their performance and worked with them after their performance.

 

 

Their selections included Now's the Time, Over the Rainbow, and Caravan.

Washington Demon Gridiron Club is having a meeting at March 7th @ 6:30 pm located in the Washington middle school Auditorium to promote youth football for 3rd – 6th grade. Our goal is to positively promote the game of football by implementing a safe & age appropriate pathway to success.

 

“WHY”:

 

• Always do what is best for kids.

• Create a progression for kids to introduce them to the game of football.

• Appropriately introduce rules and safety equipment at age appropriate levels.

• Develop skills/fundamentals

• Participate in multiple positions, so kids don’t get pigeon holed to certain spots when they are still in such developmental phase.

• Develop self-sustainable league with that will be able to promote youth football in our community for years to com

 

THEY MUST FIRST FALL IN LOVE WITH THE GAME. THEN THEY CAN FALL IN LOVE WITH THE SPORT.

WMS and WHS All-SouthEast Iowa Honors for Band PDF Print E-mail

The following students performed on February 13th at West HS for the annual SEIBA Honor Band Festival. All 6 students earned places in the SEIBA honor band after auditions on January 5th in Fairfield, IA. The original date for the SEIBA Honor Band Festival was January 19th, the make up date for the MS honor band was January 23rd and all bands ended up back on February 13th. A great honor for these 6 students from Washington CSD.

 

In the Middle School Voxman Honor band was Bailey R.-Clarinet.

In the Middle School Mortiboy Honor band was Kevin F- Tuba, Teague M- Tuba, Levi A- Baritone, and Julianna W- Clarinet.

In the High School Honor Band was Audrey W- Alto Sax

 
So You Wanna be a Cheerleader PDF Print E-mail

So You Wanna be a Cheerleader is being presented by Washington Middle School Drama.

The play will be on Friday, March 8 with a showtime of 7:00 PM. Admission is a freewill donation to the Tater Tough Make a Wish Drive in association with the WMS Builder's Club.

Builder's Club will also be selling their Make a Wish bracelets for $1 and stars for $2 before the show.
